Massachusetts Day of Percussion 2008 will be held in Boston on Sunday October 19th, 2008 at The Boston Conservatory. The Day is the first in a series exploring the literature of a particular percussion instrument. This event will feature the premiere of several new concert and pedagogical works featuring snare drum in solo and ensemble contexts. Commissioned works and selected winners of a snare drum etude competition will be included in a published volume of works that will be released for purchase at the event. Performances and classes at the event will explore the many musical faces of snare drum - orchestral, contemporary, drum corps, pipe band, etc. - as well as its history, mechanics, and maintenance.

All-day admission is $10 for PAS members, $10 for parents of PAS members, $20 for non-PAS members. Non-PAS members may sign up for membership at the event, or do it now at PAS.ORG. Admission includes one raffle ticket; additional raffle tickets may be purchased for $1 each.

Snare Drum PLAYING Competition
Not to be confused with the etude competition, we are hosting a competition for high school and college age snare drummers at the DOP on October 19th. Prizes include $100 cash as well as drumsticks and accessories from Grover Pro Percussion, Innovative Percussion, Promark, and Vic Firth!

Snare Drum Etude Competition
Announcing the winners of the First Annual PAS MassChap Etude Competition! Thank you so much to all those who submitted etudes!
The final product, The PAS MassChap 2008 Snare Drum Collection, will include forty new etudes (eleven commissioned works and twenty-nine competition winners) and is being published by Bachovich Music Publications. It will be released at the DOP. Profits from sales of the book will benefit the Percussive Arts Society.
