Hand Drumming & Brushes - N. Scott Robinson
The Hand Drumming & Brushes Clinic by N. Scott Robinson shows percussionists practical applications with techniques they may already be familiar with. Technical issues such as combining drumset independence and frame drum technique with the timbral expansion of mixing brushes and hand drumming are presented on bodhran, djembe, udu, congas, and cajon so that percussionists are given practical contemporary ideas to help stimulate creativity and improvisation.
Omar Carmenates: Marching Percussion Clinic
In his clinic, Furman University Professor Omar Carmenates will discuss his aurally-based approach for the contemporary marching percussionist. This approach, which he developed during his time as the Percussion Caption Head/Arranger for the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps, focuses on tone quality, increasing aural awareness, and chamber music principles that can be applied to the marching percussion ensemble. Omar will also be joined by the South Carolina Indoor percussion ensemble "Palmetto Percussion" for a collaboration of ideas throughout the clinic.
She-e Wu
Director of percussion studies at Northwestern University and well known marimba artist She-e Wu will be giving a clinic on performance and practice techniques on marimba. This clinic will be a very "hands on" approach in which She-e will be working with several audience members to help demonstrate various ways to approach playing mallet instruments with the utmost expression and control.
